President Bush announced today that his administration is moving to define contraception like birth control pills and intrauterine devices as abortion. If the President is successful, it would aid retailers who are unwilling to provide birth control in their pharmacies, and inhibit states that have recently passed laws to ensure that contraception is made more widely available. Do you think that contraception should be defined as abortion?

Yes, contraception is abortion.
No, contraception is not abortion.

Birth control pills and contreceptives should be acceptable. even though I rally don't believe in abortion, but abortion should take effect only if the mother or baby is very sick that nothing can be handled. than abortion should acurr but only within medicial reasons. just my opinion.

Of course there is a difference, contraception is using caution when you are not ready to be a parent, abortion depending on the situation,is a choice you make after you have been careless. Unless of course is was forced on a girl, then it no longer becomes careless on the womans part!

p.s. CONTRACEPTION AND ABORTION ARE 2 DIFFERENT THINGS!!! ABORTION KILLING A LIFE CONTRACEPTION SAFE also if a girl has a contraceptrive needle and get raped or she doesn't get the needle and gets raped why would she want to keep her rapist's baby. but I don't mind coz I am from England any way plus i wouldn't fool around at such a young age coz I'm not that kind of girl!!!

Abortion is getting rid of a baby after it was conceived, but contraception doesn't let you have a baby so you are not depriving any life. The fetus is killed off with abortion it is not made if you use contraception... so I think contraception is not abortion.

If they do go back to not allowing it, it doesn't mean that it will stop happening, it means that there will be injuries & death from people doing it for them selves, again. doctors do it properly, the patients that do it them selves don't have ability to do it safely by them selves. It isn't legal because it's right, it's legal to prevent further injuries from home jobs. Maybe there should be laws that if you're religious you will be jailed for aborting/sinning? That is where we should be going with th

Contraception and abortion have gone on since the beginning of time, and will continue. Seems dumb to legislate something that cannot be changed. Back in the caveman days, it was done with herbs.

if it is, then so is masturbation and ovulating without fertilisation (a issue for minors-is he going to be suggesting under-age sex next?) what about wet dreams? should I scrape it into a jar for later? would that stop me from being an abortionist?
Bush should think this one through, he's asking us to be illogical, not too much of a stretch judging by the yes comments here!
Y'all make me laugh!!!

In addition, according to the article, this definition is part of a Department of Health memo. It is not a 'directive' from the President. He can either show support for it or oppose it. This article doesn't specify at all how, or his cabinet, feel about this definition.

Please get a clue as to how the government actually works.

I don't feel this way, but I know there are many people who believe that any unnatural interference with the conception process is tantamount to an abortion, or that they are all the same thing.

what the hell?? how is it??? contracepetion is used for family planning, you might want a kid later on but not when you want to do it... abortion is when you want to get rid of the kid when it has started growing in your "stomach". GEORGE BUSH HAS GONE COMPLETELY MAD AND NEADS TO GOOOOOO.

Bush is an idiot! How can he even CONCIDER contraception as a form of abortion? Does he even know what abortion is?! Its killing a baby, and last time I checked, contraceptives had nothing to do with murdering unborn babies. In fact, when using a contraceptive, there isn't even a baby involved...THATS THE PIONT! OMG Bush! Get a clue!

How ridiculous!
With contraception being defined as abortion, Bush's legacy will be a massive increase in population and a strain on resources, leading to poverty and more crime as prices rise across the board.
Not one of his best ideas (has he had a good one yet?)

I believe that contraception is not abortion, contraception prevents the egg from fertilizing before reach the womb, where as abortion is fertilized and in the womb where - upon growth of the fetous to form a human life.

My IUD could be considered abortion - My dr said they don't know what about it works, they just know it does, but that was 5 years ago too. The lining of the uterus is so thin the fertilized egg can't attach itself, or maybe it stops ovulation, or messes with the sperm. All I know is that it kept me baby free for 5 years.

The answer to Child abuse and the such is to teach that Sex is not something to be taken lightly or looked at as "FUN"!!!!! We need to teach abstinence!!!!! We need to tell people the factual truth sex is for having babies there is NO other logical reason to have sex!!!! God allows sex to go on for the sole purpose of birth it is not meant as a toy nor a game!!!! GET A CLUE ALREADY!!!!

No dummy contraception can never be categorized as abortion because its not like its a foetus which is a living being. You are preventing the chance of pregancy not killing anything. Its not like it has been created.
ann9854302
ann9854302 wrote 350 days ago
how can you kill something that hasn't been created? prevention is better than finding babies that were alive and breathing in a garbage can somewhere or in a body of water. aren't there enough children dying at the hands of ppl (I'm not EVEN going to call them parents) that didn't want them... I would rather prevent a child from suffering, birth control is preventing a child from being murdered
melvinhakeem
melvinhakeem wrote 350 days ago
no, that is so stupid of him. If a sperm as not fertilized an egg there is no baby. using any form of method to prevent this happening could never be abortion. an abortion is to remove a fertilized egg from the female uterus.

Ok WHAT? Oh my god Bush is an idiot! Why on earth would this even be considered? So I suppose we should make oral sex illegal since now unfertilized sperm is apparently a life. Holy crap better make sure you aim right and dont waste any of that sounds gross but pretty much what he is saying how on earth could say a pill that prevents you from becoming fertile be abortion? Am I not understanding htis correctly?! I need to wake up I am in a bad nightmare with a president that takes idiot pills.

i dont believe abortion to be the same as contraception because abortion is like murder you're killing the life of an innocent human being or in this case a baby but contraception is just to prevent unwanted pregnancies
I Agree With Bush. Contrecption is to prevent Pregnancy and its the same thing with abortion which Canceling the baby u have by removing.
leeloverfan
leeloverfan wrote 350 days ago
I agree with the third answer though, the first answer is to have contreception to prevent pregneantcy.
leeloverfan
leeloverfan wrote 350 days ago
i'm not too sure about the answer to this one. although. abortion is killing a precious life, and the only way I can see abortion is if the baby mor mother would have a serious medicial problem where abortion should take place.

Hell no its not abortion. How is it all the religious wignuts have managed to disassemble our rights and force their warped mindset into public policy? President bush is the biggest disaster to ever happen to America and many of us cant wait for him to be gone. Cant pass any useful legislation but hes always ready to ban abortion or stem cell research or push pooolicy that is based in his religious beliefs, not for the betterment of all Americans. Learn some biology Bush and company..enough lies already.
