"Dalai Lama defends Islam as peaceful religion"

The Dalai Lama said that "it's totally wrong, unfair" to call Islam a violent religion. The Tibetan spiritual leader, appearing on Sunday at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, offered a defense of Islam in response to a question about the rise of violent religious fundamentalism. He added that he has made a point of reaching out to Muslims since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

i think it is a shame that in this public forum people don't afford each other respect for difference of opinion. Intelligent debate is not calling people names based on race. That being said, humans will always be at war, because some will always want power over others at any cost. They will also personally interpret the writings associated with their beliefs and then live accordingly - peaceful and/or violently.

Every Christian wants to eliminate religions that do not fit the "Christ" mold. All Muslims want to bomb the United States. All Jews....blah blah blah...there are extreme fundamentalist in all religions. Millions were killed by the Catholic church during the Crusades so should we put all Catholics into the catagory of terrorists too?

For how many years did the Catholics fight the Protestants in Ireland? What about the Inquisition? Read the Bible, the Old Testatment and see the violent history of Judaism. All religions have violent extremists and go thru phases of radical "expansion"

If a bunch of Christians bombed the crap out of American what would America do. Nothing because America is a more Christian country. When someone doesn't like something then that person makes up stuff to hurt that something. We all do it, just not to such extremes as to saying a whole religion is bad. That means you are saying that millions of people are bad when in fact many of the Islamic faith are kind a charitable. Dalai Lama is correct in his view as well as mine. We all are intitled to our own views.

Islam itself is a peaceful religion. There are extremists in ALL religions of the world! I am Christian, but I know people who are Muslim and they are nothing like the Islamic extremists/fundalmentalists. They are kind, giving people who are actually against the violence and the bad name that extreme Islamic fundamentalists give to an otherwise peaceful, charitable faith.

There are peaceful Muslims and there are violent ones. Regardless of this, I think the Dalai Lama has his head up the butt of wealthy and ignorant Americans and shoulnd't be trusted. Follow the money, there must be a rich Muslim who is funding his causes lately so he needed to defend Islam to keep their attention. Tibetan Buddism, "the Diamond Vehicle" is all about money and will tell you whatever you want to hear.

Of the major religions, Christianity, Buddism, Islam, Muslim, Hindi, and many others I can's think to spell right now, NONE of them condones Violence or killing. In the case of Islam it must be remembered that most Islamics are illitereate.. CHarismatic People say this is what your bible says, and they believe it. Look what happened to the Crusades when people learned to read the Holy Bible.... they ended, and the Catholic church is STILL trying to live those days down

Just read the Koran and find the answer by yourself. I'm a wiccan and I can say for sure that the religion itself is a peaceful one, like the catholics, are we forgetting the all they did, the witches trials, wasn't it killing in the name of God. Now does that make christianism something bad?
