In my experience religion is the only thing in which people indulge and deliberately retain ignorance even when better information exists. That is because religion is comforting. You need to be able to step outside the world of certainty to step out of the church, and when so many day to day things are uncertain, it is difficult for people to make that step.

Anyway - enough sensible comment - intelligent design is for morons. Flame away God squad :)

Pascal's wager - you don't think God is smart enough to know you're gaming him? Everyone has the right to believe what they want? I believe I should be allowed to do what I want to anyone I want whenever I want - does that mean I should be allowed to because I believe it?

Be interesting the know the geographic breakdown of the respondents - where in the world 'literal' religion is strongest. I have some prejudices (obviously - also known as beliefs :) ) but I'd like to know whether they are right.

Not all apes evolved into humans, only the ones who started walking on two feet. There are many people who aren't religious/don't believe in God. I'm one of them. Doesn't mean we're wrong. You have no evidence to support God. How are you so sure, when science says that the universe was created by the big bang, and we evolved? Yet how are we to know that science isn't all a fake, that God does watch over us? It's all religion. God or science? Your choice.
